The Great (capitalized) Neil Gaiman, writer of the Sandman graphic novels (which you should go read immediately if you haven’t) has reached a deal with Starz to create an American Gods TV show. The idea has been bouncing around for some time, but no network ever agreed to pick up until Starz did.
Okay, I have mixed feelings on this. For one, I am totally pumped that something like this is being made and that somebody is taking a shot on a TV show based on such an epic book. On the other hand, part of me wonders just how good it will be. The problem is it is such a unique book and unique world that I have to wonder how they will pull it off. Starz has to play this just right. Certainly Gaiman fans will be all over it, but will it appeal enough to the general public to keep it going? On the flipside, if it strays to far off the source material it risks losing the Gaiman fans.
That being said, Gaiman is an executive producer along with Bryan Fuller of Pushing Daises (another one of those “best shows that never made it”). Overall I like it. I think it will do well and applaud the vision of Starz to make this happen. I mean what’s the worst that could happen? Actually the worst that could happen would be that it is a brilliant show that never takes off like it should and get’s cancelled after one season like a certain show called Firefly.
Anyway, I will definitely be watching. Now if only we could get a Sandman series going.

PS. I admit this has nothing to do with recovery, but it does have everything to do with nerds. So I figured I would create a category just for fun stuff.
